System proves more versatile than pallet shuttles
With experience of radial and shuttle layouts, Plenty was seeking a more compact and versatile system. A Fastems DMC-MD medium duty pallet handling installation provided the answer.
Mori Seiki told manufacturingtalk.com that he said: "The NL 1500SY has robot handling for lights out manufacture and the NH5000 and Fastems will add to our ability to respond to the requirements of our aerospace customers.
We can now economically manufacture batches of only five parts, thanks to the greatly reduced set up times, 240 station tool carousel, and on machine inspection.
We already have five Mori Seiki machines, they have been fantastically accurate and are well designed and reliable".

* Subcontractor invests - investing in a Mori Seiki NZ2000TZY will help Jaybee Engineering Co (Brighton) to reduce cycle times and move towards one hit machining.
Managing director Nigel Benson said, "As a subcontractor we make products for industries which range from aerospace to furniture.
We chose the Mori Seiki at EMO for its quality, reputation and after sales support.
Few subcontractors have such high grade equipment, which we anticipate will open up new business opportunities for us.
We have purchased several motorised tool holders with the machine, which has a twin turret and twin spindle, and we expect to eliminate operations and halve some of our cycle times".
* Precision machining - Ottaway Engineering purchasing a NL2000SY at EMO 2007 was the culmination of exhaustive tests.
Chris Ottaway, chairman said, "We found that the NL comfortably held a 0.005mm band during a four hour run, proving to us that the machine would hold our demanding tolerances and provide great thermal stability.
Seeing the 20 station turret option at EMO confirmed our decision, giving us a well engineered solution for our complex machining requirements".
* Growing workload - CA Models already has four Mori Seiki machines, the NT4250 DCG, Super HiCELL 250, NVD 5000 and a MT-253.
