Machining and turning centres focus on
rigidity
'Pure Technology' applied to machining and turning centres focuses on driving at the centre of gravity to achieve very low levels of vibration and high levels of rigidity and speed.
For Mori Seiki, its main theme at the UK's MACH 2008 machine tool exhibition is 'Pure Technology' The company will feature eight machine tools including the new NMV5000 DCG 5-axis machining centre, the NZ2000 T2Y2 multi-axis turning centre with two spindles, two turrets and two Y-axis, the NT4250/1500 SZ mill-turn centre, two NL series lathes, the NH5000 twin pallet horizontal machining centre, a DuraTurn 2550 and a DuraVertical 5100

System proves more versatile than pallet shuttles
With experience of radial and shuttle layouts, Plenty was seeking a more compact and versatile system. A Fastems DMC-MD medium duty pallet handling installation provided the answer.
'Pure Technology' has been applied by Mori Seiki to all the machines on its stand and includes DCG (Driven at the Centre of Gravity), DDMTM (Direct Drive Motor), ORCTM (Octagonal Ram Construction) and BMTTM (Built-in Motor Turret) to achieve very low levels of vibration and unparalleled levels of rigidity and speed.
* 5-axis machining centre - the new NMV5000 uses DCG, DDMTM and ORCTM.
Twin lead screws on the Y- and Z-axis move the machine through its centre of gravity, eliminating out of balance forces.

High speed machining centre reduces downtime
Capable of machining workpieces up to 2000kg the Pollard Mori Seiki SH8000 horizontal machining centre offers faster traverses and tool-changing times and shorter pallet changeover cycles.
Direct drive motors on the B- and C-axies achieve precise and backlash free rotary movements.
The motors produce 1200 rev/min on the B-axis as well as a 340 deg range on the C-axis.
The octagonal ram on the Z-axis combines rigidity with thermal stability in its symmetrical design.
* Mill-turn centres - both turrets on the NZ2000 T2Y2 use BMTTM.
The built in motors eliminate the vibration associated with gears and belts, offer lower heat development characteristics, improved power transmission and greater accuracy.
As an option the machine can be supplied with a third lower turret which uses an ORCTM octagonal ram, compensating for thermal distortion and allowing stable linear guidance at high speed.
In addition to the NT4250/1500 SZ, Mori Seiki will be displaying a second NT machine 'undressed'.
Visitors will be able to see the engineering behind its 'Pure Technology', as well as the massive castings which go into every machine the company supplies.
* Interactive control - MAPPS III, Mori Seiki's interactive control system, features simplicity of operation, 3D functionality and collision avoidance.
