Europe demands more welding equipment

A Frost and Sullivan product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 14, 2007

Developments in the European shipbuilding industry - particularly in Eastern Europe - are generating increased demand for welding equipment, consumables and fabrication automation.

Frost and Sullivan reports that the European welding equipment and consumables market is currently in an upswing, owing to dynamic developments in the European shipbuilding industry.

With the order intake for ships on an upward trend, this market has great growth potential, while the automation trend in European shipyards is stimulating further revenue growth.

This is expected to continue as the shipping order books provide a healthy three-year production volume.

Given improved technology trends in the areas of lasers and submerged-arc welding (SAW) equipment and highly productive consumables such as flux-cored wires, the welding equipment and consumables market is expected to expand significantly.

As the western European region is mature, the balance in demand is provided by the immense potential from the eastern European region, where the shipbuilding industry is booming.

Highlights include an analysis of all the geographic regions within Europe, trends by welding equipment and welding consumables and the various product types, drivers and restraints, challenges and future prospects for welding equipment and consumables for shipbuilding applications.

Based upon ongoing welding equipment and consumables market analysis, the Frost and Sullivan report provides an insight into the dynamics guiding this market, and includes market challenges, drivers, restraints and avenues of opportunity for growth.

The purpose of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of the welding equipment and consumables market and its market revenue value.

"Escalating order intake and production output in the European shipbuilding industry are driving growth in the European welding equipment and consumables market.

With shipyards constantly trying to automate welding processes, market players anticipate an increase in demand for sophisticated welding equipment, which should generate higher revenue in future years.

Given these growth opportunities, the key for manufacturers lies in identifying and overcoming existing challenges in order to grow their market share," said Archana Chauhan, research analyst for Frost and Sullivan's Industrial Automation and Electronics group.

Frost and Sullivan will hold a briefing conference call at 14.00 GMT on Tuesday 20 March 2007, which will provide industry participants with an outlook on the welding equipment and consumables market.
