Linescan inspection brought within reach

A Firstsight Vision product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 25, 2005

Smart linescan camera 'opens the door' to cost effective inspections using a technique previously considered to be 'high-end' and costly, but is now factory floor affordable.

The Legend LS Linescan is the latest product in the Legend Smart Sensor range from DVT.

The use of linescan techniques in machine vision is usually thought of as 'high-end' and costly, but the Legend LS brings the benefits of linescan inspection within the reach of the factory environment.

The LS uses a 2K (2048 pixel) linear sensor giving up to 18,000 lines per second that can be used in a number of different inspection scenarios.

Typical inspection tasks for the LS include: the 'unwrapping' of cylindrical objects such as bottles, labels and caps for undistorted image analysis and the detection of flaws and errors in continuous printed web type applications.

The LS can be used as a replacement for a bank of area scan cameras, thus simplifying the analysis and reducing the cost of the inspection set-up.

The LS uses a Texas Instruments DSP processor and ships with 128Mb RAM and 32Mb of flash memory.

The LS uses a standard CS lens mount with an optional adapter for C-Mount lenses.

Also available is the Legend LS XE, the extreme version of the LS linescan for washdown and hazardous environments.

In common with its area scan stablemate, it uses a very rugged stainless steel enclosure that is in fact completely immersible.

As with all DVT Smart Sensors, the LS includes free software, free upgrades, free technical support and free licenses.

In addition, free training is available either in the classroom, or via a Virtual Tour, interactive CD.
