Micro hardness testing is half the market price

A Fischer Instrumentation product story

A highly advanced instrument is able to effectively measure test loads of only a few millinewtons or indentation depths of only a few nanometers and is priced at under half that of competitors'.

The advantages of nano-coatings in technical and industrial applications are becoming increasingly widespread and include CD-ROMS, protective eyewear, car windows and mirrors.

Until now, the cost of nano-hardness measuring instruments has been uneconomically high because of the elaborate technology required.

Fischer's breakthrough comes with the Picoindentor HM500, a highly sophisticated instrument, which is able to effectively measure test loads of only a few millinewtons or indentation depths of only a few nanometers.

The Picoindentor package comprises a well thought out design, sophisticated evaluation electronics and software and a price that is less than half the typical cost of current comparable instruments.

The resolution when applying the test load is only about 100 nanonewtons, and when measuring the indentation depth, about 40 picometers.

The maximum test load of the instrument is 500mN at a maximum indentation depth of 150 micron.

Because its automated measurement processes last only a few seconds, it is suitable for both laboratory measurements and quality assurance in manufacturing.

Connected to a PC, the Picoindentor provides all typical statistical evaluations, print forms and documentation, making it a quality test in the field of industrial nanotechnology.

The Picoindentor HM500 is manufactured by Helmut Fischer and is marketed and serviced in the UK by one of its 8 subsidiaries, Fischer Instrumentation (GB).
