One workholding unit grips different diameters

A FS Engineering product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Nov 14, 2007

To grip components of different diameters needs only one set of grippers for holding items like gear box shafts, shock absorber rods and exhaust tubes.

Lantec angular gripper types PAC, PAE and PAN have just one single turning axis for both fingers.

This novel design enables the gripping of round bar material of different diameters with minimal deviation from the centre line.

There is no need to change the gripper jaws.

The grippers are available in five sizes a torque range from 3.6 to 66Nm.

Lantec told manufacturingtalk.com that its type PAC is useful in space constricted areas as the wide opening jaws provide clearance without the need to retract the unit.

The super power gripper PAE has an average opening angle of 30 deg, a closing torque range from 24 to 350Nm with a closed retention force of a massive 773Nm for the largest of the four sizes.

The grippers are well capable of handling drive shafts for earth moving machinery or similar.

The PAN is the smaller and light weight version with useful torques of 17.5 and 34Nm respectively.

The grippers feature solid engineering, compact design and robust build quality.

They will operate reliably, even in harsh production facilities throughout all areas of manufacturing industries.

The grippers are actuated with standard compact cylinders, including magnetic pistons, ranging in bore sizes from 25 to 80mm depending on type.

The cylinders can be rotated along their piston rod axis to place the air connections at the most convenient position.

The gripper bodies are machined in aluminium and the steel mechanism is moving in hard-wearing linear guides providing great physical strength, wear and shock resistance.

Special gripper requirements including hydraulic versions can also be catered for on request.

* About Lantec - the Spanish engineering company Lantec manufactures a small range of high quality grippers which originally were developed to solve specific handling problems with automotive components.

One of its major clients was and still is the Volkswagen Group, which includes the Spanish Seat cars.

Other important European customers include high volume manufacturers of power train component, shock absorber and exhaust systems.

The company is represnted in the UK by FS Engineering.
