Certification will be an essential requirement for any packaging company that aims to supply retailers with packaging for own-label food products.
The changes will have implications for the packaging industry and a new training course has been established by Food Industry Training - Reading, to equip manufacturers with the necessary knowledge to prepare for and achieve Certification.
Using trainers who are also evaluators working for an accredited certification body, the FIT-R course aims to unravel the complexities of the Certification process and to give hands-on experience, alongside practical help and advice, on meeting the requirements of the new standard.
Three dates have been set for the one-day course, being 11th March and 15th May in Reading, and 30th October in Manchester.
Other dates will be available shortly.
The BRC/IOP Packaging Standard was developed by the British Retail Consortium and the Institute of Packaging with input from a wide range of sources which included both food manufacturer's and packaging material manufacture's and was launched to the industry in October 2001.
The document lays down a Standard, which is acceptable to all stakeholders to ensure packaging suppliers are operating hygienically and consistently according to best practice.
