At SolidWorks World 2003, a fully integrated tool for developing optimal blank shapes for complex sheet metal designs will reduce the number of trials in the prove-out stage.
Optimize material usage through geometric nesting
Powerful nesting software for nesting sheet metal blanks on coils automatically calculates the best nesting layout to optimize material utilization based on coil width and pitch.
"FASTFORM Advanced takes the guess work out of formability prediction by enabling both product designers, process engineers, and die designers to conduct early feasibility studies," said Dan Marinac, Director of Business Development at FTI.
"Field tests have shown that this technology identifies most product related problems with limited need for process and tooling information.
FASTFORM Advanced identifies these problems in minutes, enabling users to implement changes earlier in the product life cycle.
Finding formability problems early substantially reduces product and process development time, which ultimately saves corporations millions of dollars, annually." FASTFORM Advanced version 10 features a new wizard-based interface that dramatically reduces the time and knowledge required to determine forming severity.
Together with new die-oriented functions, state-of-the-art formability simulation technology, and realistic process modeling, the new streamlined interface brings advanced simulation within reach of product designers, die designers, engineers, as well as CAE analysts.
Formability results consider component or tool geometry and account for material properties, friction, binder surface, die addendum, blank holder force, pad pressure, draw beads, and tailor-welded blanks.
"Automotive and aerospace engineers confirm that FTI has made significant advances towards eliminating the complexity of formability simulation and interpretation," added Dr Medhat Karima, President and CEO of FTI.
"Over the past 15 years, our customers have performed thousands of simulations confirming our accuracy, flexibility, and usability." FASTFORM Advanced is driven by customer feedback and as FTI's flagship product, it is part of their commitment to deliver an innovative suite of software tools designed to put the power of forming feasibility on every engineer's desktop.
