German aero engine builder uses a low-foaming, water-miscible cutting fluid for all operations on difficult-to-machine nickel and titanium alloys.

MTU Aero Engines, the world'slargest sub-system manufacturer of aero engines, draws on Fuchs know-how when it comes to lubricants For example, a metal-working fluid from the world's largest independent manufacturer of lubricants is used for the manufacture of the Airbus A380 engines

The two companies plan to intensify their cooperation in the future and will also work together during the development phase of new engines.

Fuchs will thus take on a special status as a development partner and problem-solver.

The engines of the Airbus A380, which is the largest passenger airliner in the world, are jointly manufactured by MTU, General Electric and Pratt and Whitney.

And they sets new standards regarding performance, manufacturing technology and environmental friendliness.

MTU has put its trust in a metalworking fluid from Fuchs for its share of component manufacturing for the new engine.

MTU uses Ecocool 2506 S for all operations on difficult-to-machine nickel and titanium alloys.

According to Martin Eckstein, the head of Manufacturing Process Development at MTU, "This water-miscible cutting fluid out-performed all competitor products in large-scale trials with the most difficult machining conditions." Ecocool 2506 S can be used for all operations on difficult-to-machine steel and aluminium alloys.

A carefully matched combination of mineral oils, emulsifiers and EP additives provide outstanding cutting performance and excellent lubricity.

Good emulsion stability, excellent corrosion protection and low-foaming are further important features of this well-proven cutting fluid.

For the high-speed milling of integral turbine blades, Ecocool 2506 S not only significantly improved surface finish but also tool life compared with the previously-used product.

This product has also proven its superiority in turning, milling and grinding operations on other difficult-tomachine materials.
