Flextraction eliminates Polyplas's fume emissions

A Flextraction product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 3, 2008

Polyplas Extrusions chose Flextraction to eliminate its fume emissions, when it received an order to supply profiled sections to a UK customer.

Polyplas's order was for profiled sections made from Santoprene brand thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPV), which comprise high-performance elastomers, combining the characteristics of vulcanized rubber, such as flexibility and low compression set, with the processing ease and re-cyclability of thermoplastics.

When extruded over extended periods, this material produced fumes.

Although not all of Polyplas's six lines were needed for this contract, fume extraction was provided on all of them.

Flextraction is a supplier and manufacturer of local exhaust ventilation (LEV) products for industrial dust and fume extraction.

It supplied six 1.5m long, 150mm diameter Flextractor articulated arms, each with an epoxy black painted flared hood, all connected to a Sodeca 3 phase 230/240V 50Kz 2.2kW centrifugal fan running at 2,600rpm with a maximum airflow of 7,800m3/hr, more than enough to handle the 5,100m3/hr air volume required to cover all six lines.

The spiral galvanised steel ducting system to take the fumes from the work place to an outside discharge flue and cowl provides the correct conveying velocity with the necessary access/inspection doors for easy maintenance.
