Oily plates separated for robotic pick
up
A magnetic plate separator, designed for a large European car manufacturer, uses neodymium-iron-boron plate separators so the plates stay apart in spite of the oil film .
Goudsmit Magnetic Systems BV from the city of Waalre in the Netherlands has designed and produced a new type of magnetic plate separator for a large European car manufacturer These separators are applied in a robotized cell for the production of welding assemblies

Plate separators ensure easy robot working
Magnetic plate separators ensure workpiece plates stay apart in spite of the oil film and the robot in a welding cell can lift the plates from the stack one by one.
Robots with vacuum suction cups pick up large plate sections and position them on a welding table.
Because the steel plates are oiled, they stick together and sometimes the robot picks up two plates at the same time.
As a result of this the second plate may come loose halfway to the welding table.
Naturally, this causes a lot of damage in a high tech environment, where welding tables are often fitted with sensors, recorders and actuators.
By applying the recently developed Neodymium-Iron-Boron plate separators, the plates stay apart in spite of the oil film and the robot can lift the plates from the stack one by one.
To fill up the stack of steel plates, the magnetic plate separators are provided with a take away device.
This means that the magnets can be pushed away with a lever, so the stack of plates can be filled up again easily.
