Keep a firm grip on automated sheet metal work

A Goudsmit Magnetics Groep product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 13, 2003

Instead of using vacuum suckers, magnetic grab heads, attached to robot arms, grab or pick up objects like stamped steel parts, blanks and perforated steel plates.

Goudsmit Magnetic Systems from Waalre presents an entirely new product: the magnetic grab head.

In this configuration grabs attached to robot arms use magnetism instead of vacuum technology.

These magnetic grab heads serve to grab or pick up objects like stamped steel parts, blanks and perforated steel plates.

At the moment these products are picked up by vacuum grabs, but the disadvantage of these systems is that they are susceptible to defects and wear.

Also the vacuum cups must be positioned just right, because if they are partly placed over a hole in the plate, they do not function.

Electromagnets as used by manufacturers also offer no solution for this problem, as they are too heavy and can lift less plate material.

A grab head with permanent magnets is considerably lighter.

By means of air the poles of the magnets can be turned thus that they are switched off.

In this way the system can also lift and transport very thin individual steel plates.

The system can be very easily connected and is already in use with a large French car manufacturer.
