Ping Fu, chairman, president and CEO of Geomagic, has been named Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc magazine, the leading publication for American entrepreneurs.

"Ping Fu and her company, Geomagic, are perfecting a technology that is already changing the nature of manufacturing," says the introduction to the cover article in the December issue of According to John Koten CEO and editor in chief, "Ping Fu, who appears on this month's cover, is a moving example of what makes entrepreneurs so compelling, and I am proud that is the first publication to tell the story of her life and her business." Writer John Brant's article traces Fu's inspirational story from torture and deprivation in China to entrepreneurial triumph in the US.

"Ping is the kind of person who can just reach into you, find what inspires you and turn the knob to full blast," says Brant.

He says that Geomagic "has defined and dominated the high-tech field of digital shape sampling and processing, or DSSP.

DSSP technology holds so much promise because it is universally applicable; any object, animate or inanimate, natural or manmade, of any shape or size, still or, in some cases, moving, can be digitally processed." Fu co-founded Geomagic in 1996.

The company's products enable designers and engineers to transform scan data from physical objects into highly accurate digital models for applications ranging from computer simulations of racing cars, to reconstruction of historic treasures, to new processes that speed quality inspection.

Over the last five years, Geomagic's revenues have grown by 2,105 percent.

In the 2004 fiscal year, net income rose by 615 percent, the number of Geomagic employees doubled, and the company became international, establishing fully owned subsidiaries throughout Europe and Asia.

"I'm very honoured to receive this recognition," says Fu.

"But no award is won by an individual alone".

"I thank my husband and daughter for their love and support, Geomagic employees for building a valuable and interesting company, and magazine for being the first major publication to write about the power of DSSP.".
