First DSSP training centre in China
Geomagic has appointed Zhejiang Advanced Manufacturing Institute (ZAMI) as the first authorised training centre in China for digital shape sampling and processing (DSSP).
Geomagic has appointed Zhejiang Advanced Manufacturing Institute (ZAMI) as the first authorised training centre in China for digital shape sampling and processing (DSSP).
DSSP enables designers and engineers to transform scan data from physical objects into highly accurate digital models for applications ranging from ensuring the NASA space shuttle Discovery's safe return, to reconstruction of legacy parts and moulds for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the Ford Mustang, to new processes that speed quality inspection for companies such as Schneider Electric and Howmet/Alcoa.
ZAMI will offer certifications in Geomagic Studio digital reconstruction software and Geomagic Qualify computer-aided inspection software through university-level courses and training for industrial users.
Geomagic and ZAMI will also collaborate on higher education and state-of-the-art research as part of the agreement.
ZAMI, an outgrowth of the Advanced Manufacturing Institute of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, promotes manufacturing research and develops new methods and tools for upgrading industrial capabilities in Mainland China.
It is located in Yuhang, Hangzhou, at the heart of the dynamic industrial growth of the Yangtze River Delta.
"Geomagic is the leader in advancing DSSP worldwide, and we see vast potential for this technology category in China," says Mitchell M Tseng, director of the Advanced Manufacturing Institute.
"The ZAMI training and certification program is a big step in helping China implement DSSP to speed industrial processes, increase quality, and deliver return on investment." For Ping Fu, Geomagic's president and CEO, the agreement fits into a larger vision of establishing Chinese manufacturing capability.
"A major attribute of DSSP is the ability to produce customised goods quickly and cost-effectively close to the markets in which they will be sold," says Fu.
"Implementing DSSP will help China better serve its own burgeoning domestic markets with high-quality goods.".
