Geomagic announces new service releases for Geomagic Studio and Geomagic Qualify that further improve version 8 advances, and extended functionality for measurement system plug-ins.

A new release of Geomagic Studio 8 software adds significant enhancements for data capture and digital reconstruction, including improvements to global registration, contour creation, surface fitting, and extended support for new measurement system plug-ins.

Service Release 2 builds upon major advances in Geomagic Studio 8, introduced last July, that significantly speed patch layout and improve surface quality for complex CAD models.

Version 8 of Geomagic digital reconstruction software has proven to reduce NURBS surfacing time for complex objects such as engine and transmission housings by as much as 80 percent.

New functionality and workflow improvements in Geomagic Studio 8 SR2 include:.

* A slip control feature that provides greater accuracy for global registration.

* Improved automation and flexibility for contour creation, including editing of patches in both local and global modes.

* Enhanced surface fitting with better continuity and curvature maps for validating proper positioning.

* Option for flexible ASCII data import.

The latest Geomagic plug-ins for FARO and Perceptron provide new capabilities that include hard-probe scanning, probe-position digital readout, improved feature-creation workflow, a customisable large-font display, and a real-time option that discards laser scan data below a clipping plane.

These new capabilities are also supported in the latest versions of plug-ins for Creaform Handyscan 3D and the Kreon Zephyr scanner.

Geomagic has also added functionality to its plug-in for the Konica-Minolta Vivid 9i, which now automatically registers each scan as it is acquired with target registration.

Geomagic Qualify 8 SR1, the latest version of the company's computer-aided inspection software, also includes enhanced functionality and supports all of the new plug-in features.

"Our latest service releases and plug-ins exemplify our commitment to continually developing our software and working with our hardware partners to create greater value for DSSP [digital shape sampling and processing] customers," says Andrew Stein, vice president of marketing, product and business development for Geomagic.

"These latest updates increase quality while maintaining or improving speed and ease of use." Geomagic Studio 8 SR2 is available now in multiple languages through Geomagic and its worldwide distribution channel.

The software includes extensive visual documentation, including videos that guide users through processes.

It is supported both online and by native-language speakers in most regions of the world.

Geomagic Qualify 8 SR1 and the latest Geomagic plug-ins will be available in early February.
