Software streamlines multi-sensor metrology use

A Geomagic product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jun 2, 2008

Computer-aided inspection software for users of multi-sensor metrology systems streamlines workflow, improves alignment accuracy and covers 3D scanners and hard probes.

Geomagic's Geomagic Qualify 10 computer-aided inspection software for users of multi-sensor metrology systems is claimed to streamline workflow and improve alignment accuracy.

It also provides comprehensive inspection coverage for 3D scanners and hard probes.

Geomagic said that a single interface saves time and increases inspection accuracy by performing a complete inspection of every type of shape and feature that characterises an object.

Geomagic Qualify 10 enables users to quickly detect and inspect geometrical features such as points, holes, slots, cones, cylinders, planes and spheres.

The software automates feature creation and tasks such as the following.

* Calculating size.

* Analyzing fit.

* Comparing 2D and 3D features.

* Measuring point-to-point and feature-to-feature distances and angles.

A feature framework enables users to more efficiently analyse, measure and report dimensional characteristics and fitting statistics of geometrical features.

The hard probing and 3D feature capabilities in Geomagic Qualify 10 are fully integrated with functions such as alignment, GD and T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) and 2D and 3D dimensioning that are popular with users of 3D scanning systems that generate dense point clouds.

Geomagic Qualify 10 supports 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista.

The 64-bit edition of Geomagic Qualify 10 enables users to take advantage of the expanded memory capacity of 64-bit computer systems to process huge datasets generated by the newest generation of non-contact 3D scanners.

* Closing the '3D digital loop' - process improvement specialist who has helped Schneider-Electric automate inspection across 206 manufacturing operations in 130 countries, Rus Emerick, said: "The 3D feature capabilities in Geomagic Qualify 10 will close the 3D digital loop.

We'll be able to do everything - design, engineer and inspect - within a 3D environment".

A reverse engineering specialist at TurboCare, Sman Hansrisuk, said: "With the new hard probing features in Qualify 10, we can now align the part much faster and with confidence,.

We can also measure prismatic features with a probe just like in conventional CMM".

He added: "I have no doubts that the new features in Geomagic Qualify 10 will help us gain significant productivity".

Geomagic Qualify 10 ships with 32- and 64-bit editions on the CD, and supports English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese languages.

Customers with active maintenance can download the Qualify 10 upgrade from Geomagic's portal.

* About Geomagic Qualify - Geomagic Qualify takes advantage of digital shape sampling and processing (DSSP) to enable fast, easy-to-understand graphical comparisons between CAD models and as-built parts.

It is used worldwide to save time and increase accuracy for first-article inspection, inline or shop-floor inspection, MRO, trend analysis, 2D and 3D dimensioning, and automated reporting.

Geomagic Qualify is certified by PTB, ANFIA, and major customers such as Honeywell, Fiat, General Motors and Pratt and Whitney.

* About Geomagic - Geomagic simplifies digital shape sampling and processing (DSSP) for more than 5,000 professionals in industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical devices and consumer products.

The company's products and services are used to enable mass customization with the same efficiency and cost as mass production, improve dental care with individually designed devices, speed time to market for consumer products, automate inspection for better quality in dramatically less time, increase safety for NASA shuttle missions, and optimise design for everything from racing cars to blimps.

Geomagic has headquarters in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA, subsidiaries in Europe and Asia, and distributors worldwide.
