General Electric Company has signed a definitive agreement with Welch Allyn to acquire Everest, VIT (EVIT), a remote industrial visual inspection technologies subsidiary.

The transaction, terms of which are not being disclosed, will be completed upon receipt of the various regulatory approvals.

EVIT will become part of GE Inspection Technologies, headquartered in Huerth, Germany.

"EVIT's remote industrial visual inspection technology is an excellent complement to GE Inspection Technologies' ultrasound, x-ray and eddy current testing modalities," said Jeff Nagel, president of GE Inspection Technologies.

"Expanding GE Inspection Technologies' NDT capabilities to include visual inspection will enhance our customers' ability to detect and diagnose repair opportunities." Headquartered in Flanders, New Jersey, EVIT focuses primarily on the development, sales, rental, training and on-site service of remote visual inspection equipment.

EVIT's services and products enable companies to inspect machinery, facilities and infrastructure in the safest, quickest and most cost-effective manner possible.

EVIT products have been used to streamline the inspection process in all industries where safety, security and accuracy are of paramount concern, such as aviation, power generation, processing, manufacturing, law enforcement and infrastructure.

The company has about 300 employees at 17 locations around the world.
