Brushless servos and steppers have small
profile

For new motion solutions, small profile brushless servos and steppers offer drive and control capabilities in a standalone, integrated package with Profibus and DeviceNet connections.

GE Fanuc has introduced the S2K Series of brushless servo and stepper devices which feature Profibus and DeviceNet communications, all-digital drive technology, and extensive control capabilities in a standalone integrated package When used in conjunction with the automation software, CIMPLICITY Machine Edition, the new S2K Series offers standalone motion solutions for a wide range of applications including handling, wood working machinery textiles and packaging

The GE Fanuc S2K Series is available in servo amplifier, servo controller/amplifier, and stepper controller/amplifier versions, offering the flexibility to solve most motion system requirements with a single product family.

In addition to a standard Modbus protocol via a serial interface, all S2K Series controllers are available with Profibus or DeviceNet communications, including peer-to-peer support for multi-axis standalone systems.

The new line further enhances GE Fanuc's broad range of motion control solutions, which includes standalone, distributed, PLC, and PC-based configurations.

S2K Series controller features include: * Multiple speed position moves * Electronic gearing and camming * Index and phase synchronisation with a 30ęs capture input * Secondary position feedback * Jerk-limited acceleration and torque control * Free programmable digital and analog I/O.

Combining the low inertia of the GE Fanuc S2K motors with the high torque capability of S2K guarantees high acceleration rates for improved machine production rates.

An S2K controller with a 122ęs servo loop update and powerful multi-tasking real time operating system provides superior performance for demanding applications such as handling, wood working machinery, textiles machines and packaging.

In addition, S2K servo amplifiers support an analogue torque, or velocity command interface, or pulse/direction command interface (for convenient stepper replacement).

Separate encoder feedback input is available to improve machine accuracy, by means of direct position measurement, or for master/slave applications.

Using the programming tool Motion Developer, which is integrated in the automation software CIMPLICITY Machine Edition, offers all the benefits of a single programming environment.

The 'Wizards' of Motion Developer enable the intuitive creation of drag-and-drop motion blocks and the graphical generation of CAM profiles without resorting to complicated manuals.

The graphical flowchart editor makes the programming easy and very flexible.

The Navigator window ensures an easy managing of some hundred motion variables and an object library gives a clear overview about a wide range of motion commands that can used for an application.

CIMPLICITY Machine Edition deploys HMI, motion, and multi-target control in a unified working environment, saving users time and reducing training requirements.

Developed as part of GE Fanuc's digitisation initiative for delivering information over the Web, this powerful package provides the automation software components users need for machine-level applications that leverage global data sharing capabilities.
