Combined HMI and PLC system saves time, wiring

A 'one package' combined HMI and PLC system for small to medium process and automation applications offers the potential for significant time, cost, wiring and space savings.

Gefran UK has introduced a combined HMI and PLC system for completely self-contained machine control of small to medium sized automation applications.

The GF VEDO 35 and 57 series includes a choice of 3.5in or 5.7in colour or mono touchscreen HMIs (human-machine interfaces) with an IEC61131-3 PLC plus I/O and fieldbus expansion.

It offers the convenience of a single package with the potential for significant time, cost, wiring and space savings, said Gefran.

The 320 x 240 QVGA touchscreen displays offer full graphics capability through JAVA based VISUAL designer software, which is integrated with the IEC 61131-3 PLC under the single programming environment Gefran Automation Builder (GAB).

PLC expansion is by using the built-in GILOGIK Bus with a wide selection of analogue and digital I/O modules, temperature and counter modules available from the extensive Gefran GILOGIK PLC range.

* Ethernet 10/100 port is standard - an Ethernet 10/100 port is provided for data communication and programming using Modbus TCP and USB 2.0; or RS485 are optionally available along with CANopen or Devicenet networking.

The 200Mhz ARM9 processor based system includes 64MB user memory and 64MB (FLASH) system memory for program and parameter storage and SSD/HD memory card support is available up to 1GB.

Gefran told manufacturingtalk that the GF VEDO 35 and 57 series will appeal to system integrators and OEMs for small to medium sized automation across all areas of processing, packaging, metalworking, woodworking and plastics.
