CAM software, specifically developed to handle 2.5D solids-based machining and further advance the state of the art of CNC programming, will be demonstrated at Chicago's NDES 2003.

Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for programming computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools, will be demonstrating new GibbsCAM functionality at NDES 2003 held March 3-6, 2003 in Chicago, Illinois at McCormick Place Long recognized as the CAM industry's innovation leader, Gibbs specifically developed this new technology to handle 2.5D solids-based machining, further advancing the state of the art of CNC programming

In addition to the 2.5D solids-based functionality, Gibbs will also be demonstrating its wide range of support for CAD data formats.

"Even though we see an increase of freeform surfaces in consumer products, 2.5D geometry is still dominant in production machining," explains Bill Gibbs, founder and president of Gibbs and Associates.

"A significant amount of time is still spent programming and machining 2.5D parts.

Providing functionality, which specifically addresses machining 2.5D parts, provides powerful capability to the production machining job shop." This latest functionality expands GibbsCAM's already expansive production machining capability, which includes multiple-process programming and the ability to store processes for reuse.

Available as a new GibbsCAM option, called 2.5D Solids-Based Machining, the new functionality supports interacting (such as face/edge selection and model interrogation) with 2.5D solids geometry, recognition of hole features and mapping appropriate manufacturing processes to them.

New tool path generation algorithms for 2.5D solid geometry have been developed which also improve accuracy and efficiency.

Combined with GibbsCAM's existing functionality these capabilities will significantly improve CNC programmers' efficiency.

Gibbs will also be demonstrating GibbsCAM's extensive support for CAD data formats including the ability to directly read Pro/ENGINEER and CATIA native model files without a seat of either CAD application.

GibbsCAM's ability to read/write STEP AP203 and AP214 format files will also be demonstrated.

The addition of these new data formats makes GibbsCAM one of the most interoperable CAM systems available in the CAD/CAM market today.

At NDES, Gibbs will be located in the booths of Autodesk and SolidWorks, two of Gibbs' strategic CAD partners.

About Gibbs and Associates and GibbsCAM - since 1984, Gibbs and Associates has been a leading developer of CAM/CNC programming software that is widely acclaimed for its ease of use and productivity power.

The current GibbsCAM product line supports 2- through 5-axis milling, turning, mill/turning, multi-task simultaneous machining and wire-EDM.

GibbsCAM is available as either an integrated off-line or controller-embedded shop floor programming configuration, which are fully compatible.

High-level process models can be exchanged between the shop floor and manufacturing engineering allowing the capture of shop-proven processes.

GibbsCAM also provides fully integrated manufacturing modeling capabilities that include 2D, 2.5D, 3D wireframe, surface, and solid modeling.

GibbsCAM's data exchange capabilities are able to access the broadest range of native and industry standard CAD data formats.

GibbsCAM is certified under the Autodesk Inventor Certified Application Program, a Solid Edge Certified Select application, and offered under the SolidWorks Solutions Partner program.

GibbsCAM is either offered or endorsed by a number of leading worldwide control and machine tool manufacturers, including GE Fanuc, Siemens, Fadal, and Mitsubishi.

Gibbs and Associates distributes its products worldwide through a network of international Resellers.
