GibbsCAM software for programming CNC machine tools will now accept data directly from the surface modeling application software 'Rhinoceros' through a Rhino plug-in.

Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM software for programming CNC machine tools, announced today a new interoperability capability that allows GibbsCAM to directly accept data from Rhinoceros, the popular surface modeling application from Robert McNeel and Associates, for machining "In order to stay current with the latest versions of CAD applications, we continually update GibbsCAM's data exchange capabilities," stated Bill Gibbs, founder and president of Gibbs and Associates

"Support for Rhino really came about due to its growing popularity as an industrial design system.

It's a powerful, surface modeling application that is easy to learn and use; a natural partner for GibbsCAM." GibbsCAM's support for Rhinoceros is available as a freely distributed Rhino plug-in that allows Rhino 4.0 models to be sent directly to GibbsCAM from within a design session.

Additionally, GibbsCAM has the ability to directly open Rhino 3DM files.

Once the Rhino model is transferred, it is extremely easy for GibbsCAM's powerful capabilities to create CNC programs to machine them.

"The GibbsCAM/Rhino combination really makes for a cost effective, yet extremely powerful product development solution," commented Bob McNeel, founder and president of Robert McNeel and Associates.

"GibbsCAM's blend of ease-of-use and extensive machining capabilities is a great match for Rhino's customers and those considering Rhino.".
