Larger portal type M-C offers power and
speed
Moving up in machine size, Deckel Maho has introduced a large, modular, portal type, universal CNC machining centre for the five-axis machining of heavy components.
The new DMC 340 P / DMC 340 U by Deckel Maho opens up a new dimension in the machining of large parts up to 16,000kg, and impresses with its 3-point base and the shortest start-up times A success all over: in all types of industries, all over the world, the DMU 200 P and the DMC 200 P manufacture work pieces with weights up to 5000kg, completely and with the highest precision in one setup

Travelling column VMC has dual-pallet indexing
Vertical machining centre with a travelling column design and integrated rotary dual-pallet indexing system provides higher levels of productivity and output and efficient workpiece loading/unloading.
The portal design of these machines has now been successfully applied to the new Giga milling center DMU 340 P.
The result: a new definition of 5-axis large part machining.
The bed of the highly rigid DMU 340 P does not require a foundation because of its 3-point base.

Millpwr 3 software and a retrofit 'kit' provide users of good quality turret millers a three-axis CNC 3D contouring capability.
The machine can be made operational in the shortest possible time after its four main assemblies have been joined.
The machine sets new standards with regard to productivity and precision for complete machining of parts with weights up to 16000kg.
Rapid traverses of up to 60m/min with an acceleration of up to 6m/sec2 are examples of an extraordinary development.
In addition, the traverse paths of 3400mm in the Y-axis, 2800mm in the X-axis, and 1600mm in the Z-axis open up completely new machining dimensions.
The machine can be deployed not only in tool manufacturing and mould construction, but also in the market sector of large part manufacturing, such as machine- and plant construction, or in the aerospace industry.
The DMU 340 P is constructed in modular design, and can thus be perfectly adapted to individual demands with diverse spindles and milling head options.
Consequently, the standard version of the DMU 340 P comes with an CNC swivel milling head for universal 5-axis machining, which is equipped with a 44kW motor reaching spindle speeds of up to 10,000 rev/min and 288Nm torque.
As an alternative, Deckel Maho offers a NC-driven geared motor including b-axis, which makes an enormous torque of 1.500 Nm available as a high-end solution, with speeds of up to 8.000 rpm, and thus sets a new standard in universal heavy metal removal.
In combination with a palette changing system (which can be optionally expanded to 4 palettes) the above-mentioned "standard machine" finally becomes the highly productive machining center DMC 340 U, for parts with weights up to 10,000kg.
A "Unimold"-version fulfills all the demands of modern high-speed machining especially for customers in the tool and mould and die sectors.
In this case, a spindle head is available, apart from the standard NC-spindle with b-axis, with speeds of up to 30,000 rev/min in pickup mode.
The "Dynamold"-version of the DMU 340 P, which combines two technologies, represents the high-point for mould and die machining.
In this case, the operator can perform roughing in the starting position of the spindle head, for which the tool can be pivoted by +/-30deg.
Subsequently, the spindle head turns 180deg and brings the high-speed fork-head with two dynamic turning axes into position, which complete-machines the part from 5 sides with speeds of up to 24,000 rev/min.
In all expansion versions, the DMC 340 P and the DMC 340 U respectively impress with fast rapid traverses of 60m/min in the X-axis, 30m/min in the Y -axis, and 40m/min in Z-axis, as well as high dynamics of up to 0.6G.
And the new DMC 340 P also convinces with regard to chip-to-chip times, since a value of only 15 seconds keeps idle-time-losses to a minimum.
Tools weighing up to 30kg are loaded from a tool magazine that can hold 60 (standard version), or optionally 120 and 180 tools.
The portal design that was already introduced for the DMU 200 P ensures ultimate rigidity.
In conjunction with the patented Deckel Maho compact milling spindle and the 45deg-design of the milling head, the DMU 200 P assures the highest degree of manufacturing precision.
A graded cooling package provides a controlled temperature environment.
It cools every heat source: all ball screw spindles, all linear- and rotational drive motors of both the main- and the feed drives, as well as the control console.
As far as the controls are concerned, the operator can choose between the high-tech CNC solutions MillPlus IT, Siemens 840D powerline, and Heidenhain iTNC 530.
Specifications for the DMU 340 P / DMC 340 U include: * X-axis - 2800mm * Y-axis - 3400mm * Z-axis - 1600mm * Main drive is 44kW and spindle speed range is up to 10,000 ( or optionally: 8000, 18000 or 30.000 rev/min).
* Rapid traverses in X, Y and Z are 60, 30 and 40m/min.
* CNC choice is iTNC 530, Siemens 840D powerline or MillPlus IT.
