Routine maintenance of machinery and systems is one of the main factors determining the reliability of any manufacturing process, and must therefore be given special attention.

Routine maintenance of machinery and systems is one of the main factors determining the reliability of any manufacturing process, and must therefore be given special attention By the same token however, an internal servicing resource represents a significant cost for companies, and it happens on occasion that managers are forced to ignore small problems which, with the passage of time, can worsen until machines break down ultimately and need lengthy and expensive repairs

Mindful that companies need to ensure the dependability of their systems and at the same time minimize expenditure on maintenance, Giuliani has responded by putting together a Preventive Maintenance Program PMP.

Under the terms of the scheme, a Giuliani technician will visit the premises of customers in a specified geographical area at intervals of 6 or 12 months, depending on the envisaged requirement.

During the course of the visit, the technician will conduct a diagnosis on all the machines installed, carry out such work as is necessary, rectify any trouble discovered, and draw up a preventive maintenance schedule aimed at restoring the machine to optimum conditions and preventing any further problems.

The visit will also provide an opportunity to deliver short training courses and offer help and advice to operators, drawing on the extensive experience gathered by Giuliani technicians working both on older machines with several years of service history, and on brand new machines of the latest generation.

PMP is offered at a reasonable cost, given that customers who join the scheme will be located in a circumscribed area and each will pay only a portion (determined by the number of members) of the general expenditure involved in keeping a technician on call, plus a one-off payment agreed beforehand to cover the expected number of hours labour.

Preventive maintenance brings real advantages for companies, with targeted servicing operations and savings in time, money and energy some of the more concrete examples.

There is less risk of machine stoppages and therefore of lost production.

Also, with a scheme based on a permanent and planned relationship, customers can rest assured that the service provider is constantly aware of their specific needs, while they carry on their work with confidence and peace of mind.

Up to now the PMP scheme has been operating in the Vebert area of Germany; this is where the majority of German lockmakers are based, and almost all have joined.

Giuliani has already had enquiries for the PMP scheme from a group of companies in Scandinavian countries and from another group in Northern Europe.

Encouraged by the success of the initiative, Giuliani intends to extend PMP to take in the rest of Europe, the United States and Asia, offering a 'personalized' package for all customers in the sector using transfer and lockmaking machines.
