Over the years The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education has become something of a guiding light when it comes to issues of productivity management and traceability systems.

Over the years The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education has become something of a guiding light when it comes to issues of productivity management and traceability systems.

This reputation for excellent professional training has meant the Institute has been sort out for a great deal of projects both nationally and internationally.

Most recently Dr Dick Kamugasha, special projects consultant at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute, visited The Grimsby Institute to discuss potential collaborative projects between the Institute's Enterprise and International team, the Ugandan government, and a group of industry partners from throughout the country.

Dr Kamugasha met with Professor Daniel Khan, Principal and chief executive of The Grimsby Institute, Dr Mike Dillon, Lynton Perry and media expert Andrew McKinnon at The Institute's specialist 'Towers International Centre'.

The nature of the meeting was to discuss a new innovation and technology research centre, which the Ugandan government is currently investing in.

Specifically, the Institute has discussed working with them on a productivity management project using the Institute's hand held traceability systems.

Whilst visiting Grimsby, Dr Kamugasha was able to tour many of The Institutes facilities and resources, including Food Dynamo, its own food production and training facility, and the National Traceability Centre based at The Institutes main campus.

It is hoped that through the collaboration such resources will be of great benefit to the project.

The Ugandan government has, for the last two decades, articulated economic development strategies aimed at modernising its society and uplifting its population from poverty and unproductive subsistence farming.

Such grand schemes do not yield results over night, and neither should they be expected to, since their implementation requires meticulous coordination, commitment and participation.

Through the fostering of partnerships, promoting the sharing of best practice and technology, such as that between the Uganda government and The Grimsby Institute, it is hoped that these ambitious strategies will come to fruition and that the country and its people will reap the benefits.

"It has been a most fulfilling visit and of great importance to discuss the potential for collaborative projects between the two organisations", said Dr Kamugasha.

"Our experience of the Centre of Vocational Excellence at The Grimsby Institute has been the inspiration for the Ugandan Industrial Research Institute to establish a similar facility and the goodwill and readiness for collaboration on the part of the staff at Grimsby has been a source of encouragement.".
