The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education added credit to its reputation in the seafood sector when it hosted a conference of Seafood Importers and Processors Alliance representatives.

The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education added more credit to its reputation as a leading light in the seafood sector when it hosted a conference of Seafood Importers and Processors Alliance (SIPA) representatives at its main campus at Nuns Corner, Grimsby.

Although SIPA had been aware of the Grimsby Institute and the work it has been doing in the seafood sector, it had no idea the scale of operation or expertise being offered by the North East Lincolnshire organisation.

The initial objective of the meeting was to gain a true impression of the size of Grimsby's seafood production industry, but in doing so introduced the sophistication of the Grimsby Institutes activities in the global seafood industry.

So impressed were the representatives from SIPA, that they requested the Grimsby Institute work in partnership with them to support seafood trade for their members and work on future projects to support trade.

Members of SIPA have already approached the Institute for support in the analysis of factory design and cold store set up.

The Grimsby Institute will also assist SIPA with their website while providing legal guidance to the organisation.

In addition, Institute vice principal Dr Mike Dillon was asked to join the board of SIPA and is awaiting confirmation of acceptance.

"Its fantastic for the Institute to be recognised as an industry leader in the training and support of seafood professionals", said Dr Dillon.

"And obviously I am honoured to be invited onto the board of SIPA to sit with such innovative industry leaders and will be delighted should I be accepted.".
