A new intelligent programmable print controller unit is specifically designed to suit any test rig system used by a manufacturer.

Bar coding systems specialist GSM Printer and Label Systems has designed and developed a new interface unit specifically designed to suit any test rig system used by a manufacturer.

General manager Martin Cameron explained: "Some manufacturers use test rig systems linked to bar code printers as part of their standard manufacturing process, testing products as they come off the line.

" "We have created an intelligent programmable print controller to connect any test rig system or PLC.

The device will drive most thermal transfer printers." GSM Printer and Label Systems programmers have developed the unit for a range of applications and it is designed to withstand harsh manufacturing environments.

The interface unit is designed to work with both standard RS-232 communications and/or accepts logical voltage inputs.

There is also a RS-485 input and Ethernet 10BaseT connectivity.

The innovation is already proving a success, with more than 10 customers using the units to integrate rating or shipping label production with their test rigs.

Martin Cameron added: "We understand the needs of manufacturers and will continue to develop systems which will help them to improve manufacturing efficiency." The GSM Group is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of printed labels and nameplates in metal and plastics, with sites in Oxford, Wales, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

GSM is also a preferred converter of 3M material in this country and can supply labels in materials to suit the most demanding of industrial applications.
