The results of the latest GTMA survey of toolmakers, for second quarter 2004, confirms a marked rise in material costs, though business outlook remains relatively unchanged.

Toolmakers survey shows sharp rise in materials costs The results of the latest GTMA survey of toolmakers, for second quarter 2004, confirms a marked rise in material costs, with 56% of responders saying that prices have risen since 1Q2004 and 88% reporting increases since 2Q2003 General business outlook remained mainly unchanged, with high spots being a sizeable increase in order backlog supported by further increases in both quotations and shipments

The results of this survey build on the optimistic responses from the previous quarter's questionnaire when toolmakers reported encouraging signs of growth.
