West Midlands-based precision engineering and plastic injection mould manufacturing firm, T C Keight Precision Engineers, has been investing in new equipment and additional staff to handle an increasing number of tooling projects.
A new Hardinge 1000 CNC milling machine has just been delivered to strengthen even further the already well equipped toolroom, and a new toolmaker has also been appointed to help cope with the increasing workload.
Peter Glover, Technical Sales Manager, explained; "We specialise in the design and manufacture of high precision, fully hardened production injection moulding tools, so we wanted a really robust solution".
" As we already have two Hardinge machines on the shop floor we knew exactly what we were looking for." Both the new machine and the new toolmaker are already fully employed on a European project manufacturing a suite of tools for construction industry mouldings, a contract which was won just before last Christmas.
The company prides itself on building strong customer relationships and going out of its way to create real partnerships with client companies in order to fully understand their requirements and so provide exactly the product, service and quality that is required.
A growing order book demonstrates its high level of success, particularly as a significant proportion of the work has been won in direct competition against overseas suppliers.
As Glover says, "We focus on creating our tooling in the most competitive way, so, when we are given an opportunity to bid we can prove to our customers that they can indeed get the products they want from the UK, at a competitive price and in the right timescale." In addition to supplying tooling to the construction industry, T C Keight also creates tooling for the automotive sector, as well as specialised marine tooling for items such as components for undersea pipelines and sea - windspeed measuring devices, where the end-products are relatively straightforward but the specifications are very complex.
Aerospace is also a market of increasing interest to the company, and representatives attended the recent GTMA aerospace network seminar at Warwick University, which provided them with a very useful insight into the special requirements of that sector, as well as the opportunity to network with other companies which were already involved in the aerospace supply chain.
