Welsh toolmaking winners are world class
South Wales based FSG Tool and Die was a double winner at the recent Production Engineering Solutions Awards ceremony held at the GTMA 60th Anniversary Lunch at the Savoy Hotel, London.
This new company, which was only formed in September 2000, employs 10 staff and has already invested in eight EDM machines - wire, sink and hole drillers - with a further major investment in a twin chuck milling/turning machine to support its medical application projects anticipated soon.
When Aire Erosion took a close look at its customer profile it realised that the medical sector was core to the business and decided to concentrate resources on that area.
It has therefore recently bought new, much larger premises, where it intends to install clean rooms and assembly areas.
Another new initiative has been the decision to join the GTMA, following managing director Steve Batt's attendance at the recent GTMA Medical Seminar.
Batt explains, "Joining GTMA gives us access to many specialist events, with the opportunity to network with other companies in the sector".
"We also feel it is very important to belong to the major organisation which represents the industry and the fact that we appear in the Buyers Guide - and save money on our insurance as well - is icing on the cake." GTMA CEO Julia Moore, commented, "The medical sector is increasingly important for UK toolmakers, in recognition of which GTMA is currently setting up a Medical Supply Chain Network, which will bring together buyers and suppliers in this key market".
"We have been seeing an increasing number of member companies specialising in the sector and we were delighted to welcome Aire Erosion into membership - and would particularly like to congratulate them on receiving a commendation in the Engineering Excellence Awards.".
