Welsh toolmaking winners are world class
South Wales based FSG Tool and Die was a double winner at the recent Production Engineering Solutions Awards ceremony held at the GTMA 60th Anniversary Lunch at the Savoy Hotel, London.
EEPKTN team member, Chris Stokes, commented, "I'm really looking forward to working with the GTMA to maximise the benefits its members obtain from using this innovative solution." What is Business Workspaces? Document management, which is an aspect of collaborative project work that often gets overlooked, is a particularly strong feature of Business Workspaces.
Users can be assured that they are using the latest version of any document because the file must be checked out before a contributor can work on it, therefore it cannot be simultaneously amended by anyone else.
Everyone working on a document - or any object within a Business Workspace - can set an electronic flag to provide automatic email notification when that object is checked in by another user - very useful during the preparation of research proposals and tender documents by project consortia.

Understanding measurement for education use
The Government's mantra of "education, education, and education" has resulted in innovative science teaching projects, including 'Understanding Measurement with the 'Metrology Toolkit'.
Other processes that can be streamlined in Business Workspaces include calendars, task lists and discussions.
Web pages can also be included and all items can then be combined in folders, stored hierarchically and searched using sophisticated search tools.
* Benefits to GTMA members of Business Workspaces - one of the key roles of the GTMA is to keep its members up-to-date with the latest technical advances in its field and the bulk of gathering and dissemination this information falls to GTMA engineering technologist Scott Phillips.
Scott has been tasked with developing a new technical service capability that will extend the association's range of services, supporting existing members and attracting new members.
This work forms a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project between the GTMA and Brunel University's School of Engineering and Design.
Phillips sees Business Workspaces as a vital tool for fostering collaboration between GTMA member companies.
He commented, "We will particularly encourage members to use the online discussion boards to discuss technical issues.
We expect participants in the T-ForM project (which aims to bring UK industry together to develop a system for predictive thermoforming mould design and manufacturing) will gain significant benefits from the use of Business Workspaces." If you are planning, or working on, a collaborative project relating to electronics-enabled products and would like to find out more about the potential Business Workspaces, contact Scott Phillip at the GTMA.
