High performance planetary gearboxes are compact

A Gudel UK product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 24, 2006

High performance planetary gearboxes feature an innovative two-stage drive gear arrangement, which results in an exceptionally compact design, with low mechanical inertia.

A new range of high performance planetary gearboxes will be showcased by systems integration and automation equipment specialist, Gudel UK alongside the company's latest developments in precision work handling and linear drive technology on Stand D58 at the Drives and Controls Show, which takes place at the NEC, Birmingham, UK, between 16th-18th May.

Live demonstrations of Gudel's ZP series 2-axis linear positioning and transfer modules will form the centrepiece of the company's presentation, underlining the advanced 'pick and place' equipment's high speed and high acceleration capabilities - as well as accuracy and repeatability.

Gudel's new series of planetary gearboxes has also been designed for high dynamic applications.

The five-strong range features an innovative two-stage drive gear arrangement, which results in an exceptionally compact design, with low mechanical inertia and a torque range of 250 to 6000Nm.

The units' high performance taper roller bearings are located close to the drive flange, to provide exceptional torsional and axial stiffness, as well as service lives up to three times longer than other commercially available planetary gearboxes.

Furthermore, simple mounting of a wide range of motor options ensures high application versatility, making the new Gudel gearboxes the ideal choice for high precision, high efficiency, low noise power transmission solutions.

Also on show at Drives and Controls will be the company's complementary series of standard and high performance worm drive gearbox units.

Available in six sizes, each with a choice of eight reduction ratios, Gudel standard worm gearboxes are supplied with coupling options to meet the widest variety of user requirements.

The range includes NA and FA series units with solid output shafts, and NH and FH variants with hollow output shafts.

All models incorporate bronze worm gears with hardened and ground worms - for high performance and long service life - and are supplied with a backlash of between 15 and 18 minutes of arc.

The gearboxes' die cast aluminium housings also provide excellent heat dissipation properties and are machined on all faces for maximum mounting flexibility.

Gudel's AE series high performance servo worm units are designed to deliver maximum efficiency and in-service reliability.

They are available in six model sizes, with a choice of 11 reduction ratios from 2:1 to 47:1, and incorporate eccentric flanges and hollow output shafts to enable worm and wheel backlash to be adjusted quickly and effectively between 3 and 6 minutes of arc.

In addition, their purpose-designed input clutch and output shaft disc plate couplings minimise torsion and backlash, for optimum gearbox performance.

Further Gudel products to be highlighted at Drives and Controls include the company's recently-extended range of precision linear and drive technology components for machine tool, automation and special machine building applications.

The latest additions cover Gudel's complete range of precision drive pinions, racks, rollers, carriages and guideways and are particularly suitable for installations demanding high speed, high acceleration or precise positioning of components weighing up to several tonnes.

Produced in both module and metric sizes up to module 8.0 and 25mm pitch, the company's drive pinions ensure high accuracy and low backlash operation when used in conjunction with Gudel's matched series of straight or helical form rack units.

Racks can be supplied in steel with precision cut, precision cut and hardened, or hardened and ground steel forms capable of withstanding loads up to nearly 80,000N.

They are also offered in stainless steel and a variety of special finishes to combat aggressive or corrosive operating environments.

A further range of low-cost injection moulded rack units is available for light to medium duty applications.

All Gudel racks are manufactured to close tolerances, ready for use in continuous runs without modification.

In addition, they can be supplied with pre-drilled mounting holes for rapid fixing.

Gudel's rack and pinion ranges are also complemented by a wide variety of heavy duty plain and grooved rollers and guideways - enabling users to engineer complete solutions to their component handling and automation problems.
