Two-fluted gun drill offered as standard item
Standard range of two-fluted gun drills with brazed solid carbide head are especially suitable for the machining of cast iron, aluminium as well as non-ferrous metals.
Following the successful introduction of standard range type EB 80 with solid carbide head and solid carbide type EB 100 single-fluted gun drills, at EMO, Guhring is adding two-fluted gun drills type ZB 80 with solid carbide head to the standard range.
Therefore, Guhring customers can now benefit from the advantages of the ex-stock availability of these gun drill types, in particular the cost efficiency even with small order quantities and 24h delivery.
Standard range ZB 80 two-fluted gun drills with brazed solid carbide head are especially suitable for the machining of cast iron, aluminium as well as non-ferrous metals and are available in diameters 8.0/10.0/12.0mm for drilling depth up to 30 x D with shank to DIN 6535 HA.
However, thanks to chip breakers and formers as standard, the gun drills are also suitable for the machining of long-chipping aluminium alloys.
The main advantage of two-fluted gun drills is the sub-stantially higher feed rate that can be applied during the production of the hole.
This is due to the design of the two-fluted gun drill, it has two cutting edges and two flutes.
However, this increase in machining speed is combined with a reduction in hole accuracy.
This is also a direct consequence of a drill design with two cutting edges.
As the cutting edges are positioned opposite each other, there is less of a smoothing effect and less support in comparison to single-fluted gun drills.
