Metal surfaces prepared for bonding non-metallics

A Guyson International product story

the Guyson Multiblast 700 multiple gun beadblasting system processes aluminium pressings which require surface finishing in preparation for bonding to rubber, plastics or composites.

A common problem in manufacturing is how to bond rubber, plastics and composites to metal.

The latest version of the Guyson Multiblast 700 multiple gun beadblasting system has been designed to process aluminium pressings which require surface finishing in preparation for just such a bonding.

New features include a row of seven, automatically operated, oscillating blast finishing guns positioned across the full width of the cabinet and a manually operated, slide in slide out, load and offload drawer to accurately position the components for finishing one at a time.

The guns are spaced across the full width of the blast chamber on a pneumatically powered rotating bar designed to create an oscillating movement through a 90 degree arc to cover the entire area of the inverted 'V' shape of the folded aluminium pressing.

A custom built fixture inside the sealed, twin handled, drawer unit accommodates pressings in sizes up to 600mm wide by 150mm deep and remains locked in a static position during blast finishing operations.

At the end of each blast cycle both the fixture and the finished component are withdrawn by the operator for inspection, removal and reload before repeating the process.

The entire operation takes less than 30 seconds and consistently provides a uniformly etched-keyed surface profile appropriate to the bonding application.

Consumption of, blast media and compressed air is kept to a minimum by using a brief, intermittent blast cycle.

Additional economies are made by using a media cyclone separator which, in conjunction with a high efficiency cartridge filter dust collector, maintains good visibility inside the blast chamber and a clean operating environment in the workshop.

This new system of using a series of automatic blast finishing guns in combination with a manually operated sliding drawer fixture can be modified to process other types of components.
