Automated washing and drying

A Guyson International product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Sep 22, 2005

With the Guyson Marr-Line 600/2 conveyorised wash and dry system, reusable tote bins and trays can now be cleaned and dried, getting rid of production stains, oils, contaminants, and odours.

This leads to improvements in quality assurance; protection of components and all importantly minimises cross contamination from one usage of the tote bin to the next.

The machine is uniquely equipped with a laser-sensor controlled air knife that automatically adjusts to the profile of the next component.

This laser controlled positioning system allows the cleaning system to automatically cope with degreasing, washing and drying a continuous flow of plastic tote bins, baskets and trays of variable height ranging from 30mm to a maximum of 228mm.

As each component emerges from the high intensity wash chamber, the laser sensors select from one of four operating positions and automatically bring the overhead air knife to within a distance of 50mm from the target surface to optimise its effectiveness in dispersing the carryover wash solution.

It is also equipped with two side positioned air knives, blowing high velocity ambient air and a 6 kW in-line air heater, drying the components in the 650mm long drying oven.

This leads to clean, dry, components that can be safely and efficiently reused time-after-time.

This latest Marr-Line washer/dryer helps companies conform to recent European environmental directives that aim at dramatically reducing packaging waste.

Through the use of reusable, flexible packaging alternatives such as plastic tote bins and component trays, coupled with the new Guyson tote bin washer, dusty and costly to dispose of cardboard boxes could soon be a thing of the past.
