Robotic finishing demonstrated in showroom

A Guyson product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 27, 2007

Finishing equipment manufacturer has installed a robot in a demonstration and manufacturing centre showroom to provide free process evaluation and demonstrations.

European finishing equipment manufacturer, Guyson International, is operating a Motorman HP6 robot and NX100 controller in its Skipton, UK, demonstration and manufacturing centre showroom.

The intention is to provide free process evaluation and demonstration facilities of automated blast or wash cells.

Recent increased demand for fully automated process cells has encouraged Guyson to install this test installation to prove the company's system integration capabilities.

It will show benefits of robotic handling and component manipulation used in conjunction with Guyson finishing equipment.

Demonstrations enable Guyson to help users to make informed judgement on equipment and process choice by providing accurate process times and finishing costs.

With this fully working robotic cell Guyson can simulate a number of real time automated production set-ups, including performing machined component pallet to pallet time and motion studies.

The robot can manipulate a single blast nozzle around a heavy complex work piece or to pick a small, light component from a pallet and orientate it in front of fixed stationary blast nozzles.

The same robot can move work pieces through a full automated cell for pre and post washing or ancillary finishing such as laser marking and prove 'lights out' stacked pallet production processes.

This will see robotics used to somewhere near its full potential, not just as a 'dumb' pick and place unit to simply load and unload components, but rather as a sophisticated and integral part of the finishing equipment manufacturer's cellular production process.

Richard Standing, Guyson's Business Development manager, said: "We would like to demonstrate to potential customers the full benefits of moving their finishing production right to the top of the 'automation ladder', to a fully automated system.

Guyson sees this move as vital for medical and aerospace customers to be able to deliver the required consistency of finish from the blast process, whilst meeting stringent quality standards.

It will also assist other high volume manufacturers to be better able to compete against low cost labour economies".

Standing added: "This latest demonstration facility, coupled with Guyson's free component trials service, enables customers to visit just one company, prove their intended robotic handling system is going to synchronise with the chosen automated finishing unit and minimise any concerns before they invest in the capital equipment.
