Blast cabinet designed for medical products

A Guyson International product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Feb 8, 2008

A stainless steel blast cabinet has been engineered for medical product manufacturers, where the introduction of ferrous contamination would be detrimental to production.

Specialist finishing equipment manufacturer Guyson International has recently added the Guyson Mediblast 1400 stainless steel blast cabinet to its extensive range of finishing products.

This blast cabinet has been especially engineered for medical product manufacturers, laboratories, etc, where the introduction of ferrous contamination would be detrimental to the production process.

At present many medical and dental implant manufacturers and prosthetic departments already use Guyson manual blast cabinets for a variety of processes.

These include imparting necessary surface preparation to deliver improved coating and bonding adhesion on hip joint implants and producing the glint free cosmetic surface finish required of many medical instruments.

* Medical components - to enable effective use of their cabinets on medical components they have to be especially adapted by Guyson with rubber linings and polyurethane coating to critical wear parts so that no ferrous contamination, from the substrate of the blast cabinet, can affect their components during the blast treatment process.

Guyson told manufacturingtalk.com that manufacturers which have higher volumes and have a machine dedicated to medical blasting have previously purchased one-off special stainless steel cabinets to remove the potential contamination problem.

Now Guyson have responded to numerous customer requests and introduced a dedicated 'standard' Mediblast 1400 cabinet that is capable of coping with the vast majority of manual operated medical blast finishing requirements.

This cabinet is manufactured from the highest quality 316L stainless steel and is equipped with the powerful model 900 blast gun which has both a polyurethane body and a stainless air control jet, all as standard.

Internal dimensions of the continuously welded blast chamber are 815mm wide x 560mm deep x 591mm high (maximum) with the overall machine height being 1527mm.

A full depth hinged door on the right hand side provides ease of access to the illuminated chamber.

The blast gun is foot pedal operated and can either be hand held or retained on an adjustable support within the blast chamber.

The latter option leaves both hands free for excellent component manipulation.

The Mediblast 1400 is compatible with a wide range of blast media types and grades, making it ideal for a broad range of medical surface preparation, finishing and cleaning applications.

The system also comes complete with an efficient dust collector so enabling clear viewing of the component surface whilst blasting.
