Rotary indexer has digital servo control
Machine tool ancillaries launched at EMO 2005 include rotary indexing unit with digital servo control and intelligent drive electronics and a special chuck for holding thin wall tubing.
A new rotary indexing unit with digital servo control and intelligent drive electronics, a special chuck for holding thin wall tubing, and a new pneumatic collet block for internal and external part location are new product launches by the Hardinge Workholding Division at EMO 2005 in Hanover The new heavy duty version of the 5C rotary indexer expands the existing range of indexers introduced in 2004 that have been widely adopted by users of vertical machining centres and knee/universal milling machines

The revolutionary Hardinge / EMAG joint venture produced VL machines provide a guaranteed load / unload time of 4 - 6 seconds - chip to chip - which is critical for cycles of 30 sec and less.

Rapid part positioning and dual part processing was demonstrated on a dual-head 5C collet indexer on a Hardinge-Bridgeport vertical machining centre.
The all-digital servo control with its multi-line display enables editing of the program number, step number, loop count and preparatory code on a single screen, thus reducing the inconvenience of scrolling.
Built-in infra-red sensing enables up - and downloading of programs, and up to 50 programs with 1,000 steps each can be stored.
Indexing rate is 360 deg/s.
The machine table-mounted Pneumatic 5C Collet Block 'air open - spring close' design is able to hold parts with a force of up to 7563N.
It uses air during setting to open the collet and from then on, the specialist spring design secures the component without the use of air.
In the event of air failure, the 'fail-safe' unit maintains the concentricity of the part and its clamping position.
Units can be multiple mounted and grip either internal or external diameters.
Delicate or thin-walled components can now be easily held without being crushed or distorted - even at normal draw bar force on a lathe - by using the recently introduced Hardinge Force-Limiting Step Chuck.
