Coolant system eases turning of difficult metals
Coolant system makes the turning of difficult-to-machine materials like hardened steels, wear-resistant alloys and titanium-based alloys faster while total machining costs reduce.
Manufacturers involved in turning hard and difficult-to-machine materials like hardened steels, wear-resistant alloys and titanium-based alloys - know, only too well, the machining problems that can affect overall performance.
These include the following.
* Achieving optimized cutting speeds and removal rates.
* Controlling excessive tool wear.
In response to these obstacles hard turning and machine tool specialist has launched a new coolant system into the market called 'Icefly'.
The unique 'Icefly' machining system helps customers cut parts faster, increase work throughput and reduce total manufacturing costs.
'Icefly' is a revolutionary coolant system that involves using nitrogen gas (liquefied by cooling to -320 deg F) and aiming it at the cutting insert in cycle.
This ice cold jet rapidly removes heat from the cutting zone and, at the same time, evacuates 'hot' chips from the cutting area and workpiece.
Due to the superior cooling characteristics of liquid nitrogen - tool wear is significantly reduced even when cutting at high speeds.
Furthermore for customers cutting with ceramic inserts - the 'Icefly' solution prevents the insert cracking and fracturing.
The 'Icefly' system can be easily fitted to existing machines or can be specified as an additional option at the point of purchase.
The inert liquid nitrogen is stored away from a customer's facility and instead is piped to a flow control unit that serves one or more machine tools.
Small, flexible tubes deliver the nitrogen from the flow control unit to the cutting tool.
Nitrogen is a safe, non-combustible and non-corrosive gas.
Companies in many industries use Nitrogen for a wide variety of applications including food freezing and food preservation, plastic and rubber processing etc The liquid nitrogen used in 'Icefly' evaporates quickly back into the atmosphere leaving no residue or contamination on the workpiece, cutting tool, machine tool or production zone.
The performance benefits of the 'Icefly' system include the following.
* Increased cutting speeds and removal rates improved by up to 200%.
* Increased tool life by up to 250%.
* Improved machining performance, even when cutting with ceramic inserts.
* Enhanced chip removal and evacuation - and avoidance of oily residues forming on workpieces and tools.
