Everyone should have a tool balancing system
Tool balancing was regarded as a science, which nobody really tried to conquer. The Haimer balancing system, Tool Dynamic, makes balancing as simple as operating a coffee machine.
Part-off and groove in the 'dry'
Advanced Carbide Tooling has introduced Futura-coated carbide inserts for its 2.2 parting-off and grooving system, allowing dry machining as well as higher cutting speeds.
The Franz Haimer company offers now an extremely comfortable solution which costs essentially less money to the user but provides instead all the necessary resilience.
Haimer has developed a system of extensions fitting to the shrinking tool-holders allowing the user to "shrink" his tool-holders "together" to his own design.
"Basis" of this system are shrinking tool-holders available in 4 varying lengths and for tool-shaft diameters of 6 to 32mm.
They are obtainable in the form of tapers SK 40, SK 50 and HSK 32 to HSK 100.
Shrinking extensions are available in diameters of 3 to 20mm and they can all be shrunk into these tool-holders.
Upon request two or three extensions can be applied.
The relevant standard length is 160mm, which does, however, not bind the user.
The user can shorten these extensions as requested and consequently he can achieve any required length of the complete tool-holders.
Cutting an extension down to the required size is still less expensive than a precise manufacture of a special size.
A large advantage is vested in the modular design.
First the shrinking chuck is arranged to the required length and following use the chuck is dismantled into its individual parts.
Therefore it is available for any subsequent use.
The pre-balanced basic shrinking chuck shows a true concentricity of maximum 2 microns.
The extensions are also extremely accurate due to their symmetric design.
Due to the increasing length of the complete system the concentricity is reduced to approx.
5 microns per extension.
An concentricity of 0.01mm for a 400 mm long tool-holder is already a good result, would you agree ? The shrinking chucks are pre-balanced at 10,000 rev/min.
In particular the shrunk milling and drilling tool imparts an out-of-balance to the system, which needs to be compensated during a subsequent balancing process.
In order to keep it as short and effective as possible, the development engineers at Haimer had a good idea: Every chuck is provided as a standard with four threaded holes, which make balancing much easier.
In addition to this Haimer has a assortment of threaded studs with varying weights and a special software telling the user exactly where he shall introduce a specific weight in order to remove the unbalance.
This software is installed on the Haimer Power-Clamp balancing system.
Customers who use a different system can still profit from the threaded holes.
They will not learn where which weight needs to be installed, however, some effort with trial and error will allow them to use the tool with threaded studs.
They will at least save their effort in going to a machine tool to drill holes or remove metal from parts.
A further argument for inductive shrinking.
The shrinking extensions indicate an additional advantage of inductive high-power shrinking systems.
Somebody who can not shrink HSS can not profit from shrinking extensions.
He can stick them together, he will, however, not be able to disconnect them if heated slowly.
Now the 9kW power of the Haimer shrinking equipment Power Clamp can show all its assets.
This power allows the extensions to shrink and slacken the extensions as required.
Irrelevant of this the facilities are still having 60 to 70 % of HSS-tools available which can be used with the Power-Clamp without any problems.
