Recent developments have made 5-axis machining a realistic option for smaller toolmakers and other subcontractors to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce delivery times.
The newest addition to the Haas Toolroom series is the wide-swing TL-3W.
It features a more powerful, gear-driven spindle and wider swing capacity than the standard TL-3, while maintaining the same footprint.
With a maximum cutting diameter of 762mm and a maximum distance between centres of 1524mm, the TL-3W is said to be suitable for low-volume production of large-diameter work, such as custom wheels, bearing housings, large couplers and long rollers.
It has a maximum swing of 762mm over the front apron, and 457mm over the cross slide, with a generous X-axis travel of 406mm.
The TL-3W features a 30hp vector dual-drive spindle and a Haas-built two-speed gearbox.
Maximum spindle speed is 1,800 rev/min with the optional 305mm chuck.
For heavy cuts and fast material removal, the TL-3W provides 5,288Nm of torque in low gear, and 1,898Nm of torque in high gear.
The A2-6 spindle-nose has a 89mm bore and accepts a variety of chucks and collets, including hollow chucks up to 635mm in diameter.
Like all Haas Toolroom Lathes, the TL-3W is equipped with standard handwheels and high-accuracy digital readout to allow manual machinists to begin cutting parts in minutes.
And with the Haas Intuitive Programming System, they will transfer in to automatic and full CNC operation, from manual to CNC in half a day, claimed the company.
