A standalone trunnion table, which can can be interfaced to virtually any CNC control system to convert a CNC Machining Centre into a full 5-axis machine will be shown at an Open Day event.
Seminars promote 5-axis machining for SMEs
Recent developments have made 5-axis machining a realistic option for smaller toolmakers and other subcontractors to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce delivery times.
The demo day showcases the capabilities of the latest 5-axis machining centres from Haas Automation, with technical support from cutting tool makers Sandvik and software specialists Delcam.
Patrick Fenn, technical director, Haas Automation, said: "5-axis machining centres from Haas add a 2-axis trunnion table to the 3-axis machine so that most simple and even complex shapes can be machined without refixturing the workpiece.
It saves time and increases accuracy so will appeal not only to motorsport and aerospace engineers but also to precision engineers in general subcontracting.
Easy dismounting of the trunnion table returns the machine to standard 3-axis configuration as required." Bill Williams, chief executive, Hethel Engineering Centre said: "The Technology Demo Day is about bringing the workshops here at Hethel to life.
It's bringing businesses in to expose them to state of the art equipment and helping them to raise their game." On show will be the Haas VF-2DTR, one of the company's range of simultaneous 5-axes machining centres, with a live demonstration of 5-axis machining to highlight how the application of 5-face machining minimises the need for complex fixturing.
Tooling for the machine's demonstration is supplied by Sandvik, and the machine's program has been prepared by Delcam.
Both companies will be displaying their products on the day.
Other displays of interest include a rapid prototyping facility, spark eroding machine and the latest in Haas toolroom millers and lathes with 'Intuitive Programming'.
Haas Automation is a Technical Partner to Honda Racing F1 Formula 1 Team, supplying several CNC machines to its wind-tunnel facility, which is currently among the most advanced in the world.
The display at Hethel Engineering Centre is open from 08.30 until 17.00 with a buffet served at lunch time.
