Although this remarkable design has only been on the market for just under half a year, the Roto is already revolutionizing the manufacture of turned components using Short CNC Magazine Barfeeds with bars up to 1.9m (75in) long.
The Roto enables all lathes to run bars much longer than headstock length, with the bar supported by the Roto, which rotates at exactly the same speed as the lathe spindle.
The bore of the Roto spindle incorporates a system of easily removable bushings and spacers, manufactured with a bore diameter slightly greater than the bar outside diameter, and thus restricting the movement of the bar within the Roto spindle.
This creates a situation of, in effect, extending the rotating spindle of the lathe, and at the same time preventing any friction or vibration normally associated with bars longer than the headstock length.
The base section of the Roto is made of heavy duty fabricated construction, giving maximum height adjustment to embrace all known lathe spindle centreline heights.
The Roto consists of a drive unit and combined retainer for linear bushings, and a driven unit compromising a main spindle and a splined, spring loaded, sliding drive head, which rotates a main spindle at exactly the same speed as the lathe spindle.
