Machine tool builder seeks more shop floor staff
Anticipating rising turnover in a highly successful operation, a UK-based machine tool builder is seeking staff in all disciplines on the shop floor.
Heller Machine Tools has announced that it is seeking staff in all disciplines on the shop floor.
"Our business is building high quality horizontal machining centres for customers, often to stringent delivery schedules, but the focus of our business is providing the high level of pre- and post-sales support which those customers require, whether they are large companies such as Toyota or Triumph needing turnkey projects or small sub-contractors which need just one machine" Geoff Lloyd, MD of Heller said.
"To achieve that consistently we must employ sufficient skilled people.
This year we have seen a significant increase in turnover compared with last year, which was a significant improvement on the year before, and we are anticipating another increase in turnover next year.
We are looking too augment our staffing levels now to be ready to meet the forecast increase and also the greater demands which our customers place upon us".
In 2001 Heller doubled its turnover to over 300 horizontal machining centres compared with 150 machines in 2000 - itself a very healthy year for the business.
2002 has already seen those figures exceeded.
In addition, the Redditch plant has taken on the build of the Heller MCH200 and 250 machines which are being supplied to customers world wide, with cutting trials and prove out as well as machine build being completed in the UK.
As well as seeking skilled people, Heller is continuing its apprentice training programme and has taken on three new apprentices this year.
Many of its existing employees were apprentices with the company and it numbers several Apprentice of the Year winners amongst its workforce.
