Machining centre machines to close tolerances
A small family-owned business will increase its turnover by 35.2% this year and, on new M-Cs, consistently machines to tolerances which would frighten the majority of engineers.
Managing director of Heller Machine Tools, Geoff Lloyd, said "We are pleased to have achieved recognition for the systems we have put in place but we feel very much that a quality management system is only the first step.
World Class has become an almost meaningless clich?: we at Heller seek to be the best and we strive to excel in every aspect of our business.
This requires courage, commitment and dedication from everyone in the company and a willingness to change the mind-set of the business, to reorganise, re-invent, reassess constantly.
The process is never-ending, but we feel that our customer base, their loyalty, the long-service of our employees, and now this certification are all indications that we are achieving our objectives".
Heller builds horizontal machining centres, designs and manufactures fixtures, designs and project manages turnkey production systems, and undertakes pre-production prototyping on behalf of customers at its purpose-built Redditch plant.
The principle management objective is to reduce wasteful activity in order that the customer receives the machines, support and service he wants when he wants it.
All machines are manufacture and assembled to order not for stock, which requires a large amount of flexibility from the workforce and suppliers.
Machines are pulled through the assembly process, not pushed into stock or buffer areas.
Suppliers are closely involved with the process from the outset, being given a clear vision of each project's requirements and advised as soon they change.
All employees are encouraged to seek improvement, creating a circle of continuous development.
Lloyd said "As a matter of everyday practice, we continually re-assess each aspect of the business in search of improvement.
We evaluate all operations that contribute to the lead time, measure and audit what we do, set meaningful targets, evaluate the achievements, and then set new target.
In this way, and only in this way, does our customer get the level of service and support which he merits". Request free introductory details about products from Heller Machine Tools ...
