HMC works with automatic pallet handling

At the German METAV machine tool show, Heller will demonstrate one of its MCi 16.1 horizontal machining centres working on the Fastems stand with automatic pallet handling and storage system.

Today, longer machine run times in so-called unmanned operation are almost a must for economic production Fastems, one of the leading suppliers of factory automation, teamed up with Heller to demonstrate visitors of Booth E 23 in Hall 15 how to utilise the 8750h of the year in the most efficient way

FMS technology from Fastems provides efficient material logistics solutions for almost all industries that considerably enhance floor space utilisation in the production hall.

Depending on the extension level, complete stocks of components, raw materials and machined parts can be stored in the same automated storage container.

Costs and time required for changing the production mix are often extremely high for automotive industry suppliers.

Fastems FMS solutions combine the benefits of mass production with the flexibility of one-off production.

The possibility to incorporate different machine types and manual workstations into a single system allows using FMS technology in almost any existing production system.

At the METAV 2006 in Duesseldorf, Fastems and Heller will exhibit an FMS solution in combination with a Heller horizontal machining centre type MCi 16.1.

Heller's current MCi range comprises highly productive system machines with an excellent cost-benefit ratio yielding an uncompromising reduction of per-piece costs.

The basic machine configuration provides all the essentials.

It can be complemented by an extensive range of options including everything modern production machines require for uninterrupted duty.

With a working range of 630 x 630 x 630mm, Heller's MCi 16.1 can be ideally integrated into the Fastems FMS concept, either as a building block module or versatile all-rounder.

The gantry column from nodular cast iron with thermosymmetrically mounted spindle unit provides maximum axis dynamics in X and Y without restricting accessibility to the spindle unit.

Digital drives with plug-in coupling and low-wear ball screw spindles ensure long-term reliability of operation.

Similar to the Fastems FMS, the sophisticated modular structure of the MCi range provides excellent expandability.

Options include automatic swivelling load/unload stations, pallet pools, an additional 5th axis, tool monitoring, measuring probe and minimum quantity lubrication to mention but a few.

For tool or mould and die manufacturers a special option package including a powerful computer and look ahead functions is available.

The machine shown at the METAV is also equipped with the Dynamics Package 1 and the in-process drill fracture sensing.

In combination with a fast 80-place chain magazine this guarantees reliable operation of the Heller machines even during unmanned production.
