Heller Machine Tools is adding a 35% extension to its UK facility to increase its production capacity and help maintain existing short lead times from order to delivery.

Heller Machine Tools is again investing substantially in its production capability at Redditch, West Midlands, UK The German company, said Heller machine Tools to Manufacturingtalk, intends that all the new 'H' series horizontal machining centres, four types of which were shown at EMO 2007, are to be built in the UK

The Redditch facility will have a 35% production extension in an assembly bay being prepared.

Also the groundwork is in progress for a second additional bay.

Managing director of Heller Machine Tools, Geoff Lloyd said in a report to Manufacturingtalk that: "Heller prides itself on the service with which it provides customers, from pre-sale engineering assistance through to excellent training and post-installation service support.

Part of that service is to deliver machines to customers in the shortest possible lead times, and to ensure we continue to do that we are investing in a substantial new extension".

He added: The UK has long been recognised as the best facility for producing and supporting the Heller horizontal machining centres, with the MCi and MCH ranges built in Redditch for customers all over the world.

This is a testament to the standard of engineering and levels of service which we have achieved.

Demand for our machining centres world-wide is such that to maintain our short delivery times we have to increase production capacity - we have seen a continual year-on-year increase in sales throughout the last five years".

An additional service road is being built to handle the increase in traffic and, while the services are being installed for the new production bay, 'Bay 4', services are also being installed for the next production area, Bay 5.

Heller Machine Tools' Redditch plant builds horizontal machining centres, designs and manufactures fixtures, designs and project manages turnkey production systems, and undertakes pre-production prototyping on behalf of customers at its purpose-built Redditch plant.

The UK plant builds all the sub-assembly units, including the columns, spindles, service units and tool magazines.

Redditch also carries out pre-production prototyping, cutting trials and prove out before machines being shipped from the site direct to the customer.

The DIN EN ISO 9001: 2000 accredited site was last extended at the end of 2003, just four years ago, when Bay 3 was added.

The new extension will be operational from December 2007.

Lloyd said "As a matter of everyday practice, we continually re-assess each aspect of the business in search of improvement.

We evaluate all operations that contribute to the lead time, measure and audit what we do, set meaningful targets, evaluate the achievements.

In this way, and only in this way, does our customer get the level of service and support which he merits.

The new extension is a visible and tangible of our successful management and engineering practices". Request free introductory details about products from Heller Machine Tools ...
