A two part acrylic that requires no pre-treatment of the joint surfaces bonds polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-copolymers, polybutene-1 and polymethylpentene.

Henkel Loctite Adhesives has introduced a product specially developed to bond 'difficult' substrates such as polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene-copolymers, polybutene-1 and polymethylpentene Called Loctite 3030, this is a two part acrylic that requires no pre-treatment of the surface to be joined and no primer to activate the adhesive

The result is not only easier application, but also a vastly improved bond strength for the joint involved.

"This new technology involves chemistry that modifies the surface and cures the adhesive at the same time," explains Mike North, Application Engineering Manager at Henkel Loctite Adhesives.

"The two component adhesive works with a 10 to 1 mixing ratio and provides an automatic gap adjustment of up to 0.25 mm through the use of fillers." He continues, " Polyolefins are used in so many applications today that it was essential to create an adhesive which would reach high strength without surface pre-treatment.

With the introduction of Loctite 3030, we have achieved that objective and this will revolutionise the thinking about plastics bonding." Manual application of the new adhesive is through the use of a standard hand gun with a static mixer.

Fixturing time at room temperature is about 10 minutes.

It is also possible to create an automated dispensing system for Loctite 3030.
