Ball end mill machines fine details,
replaces EDM
Solid carbide miniature ball end mill has machines deep corners and precise details, as well as slots and ribs, which has conventionally been done with EDM methods.
Hitachi Tool's main focus is to concentrate on R and D Engineering; this policy enables Hitachi Tool to be more innovative in bringing new cutting tool technology to the request of the die and mould making industry As the request becomes greater for more efficient production processes and less EDM 'sparking' times, Hitachi Tool developed the new EPDB Epoch Deep Ball

Miniature end mill replaces EDM detailing
Solid carbide miniature end mill is for cutting deep ribs and the slotting in moulds, and also for machining deep corners and precision parts, normally done by EDM methods.
Micro-fine grain carbide tools wear longer
Micro-fine grain solid carbide miniature tools with new cutting geometry and very small diameters provide a wear resistance in pre-hardened steels close to that of CBN tools.
This solid carbide miniature ball end mill has been designed for the application of cutting deep ribs and the slotting of moulds, and also for machining deep corners and precise details, which has conventionally been carried out by EDM methods.
Due to the higher breakage resistance and longer tool life of the EPDB Epoch Deep Ball even such difficult operations can be carried out as a safe and economical milling process.
These advantages are the result of Hitachi Tools latest development in cutting-edge and tool geometries and with regard to the coating technology.
The completely newly developed under-neck shank of the EPDB Epoch Deep Ball with its optimum length reduces the danger of tool-breakage and vibration.
In combination with the newly designed cutting edge and flute geometry this end mill achieves higher stability in long overhang machining operations.
Hitachi Tool offers this end mill with the new Hitachi-Nano-coating TH45+.
This newly developed coating achieves longer tool-life than conventional TiAlN-coatings, especially in dry machining of hardened steels.
Another additional unique feature of the EPDB Epoch DeepBall is the increased effective reach length, especially when working on moulds with a draft angle.
E g, In case of machining a mould with a draft angle of 1 deg using a radius 0,5mm end mill with an under-neck length of 10mm, the actual effective reach length of the EPDB Epoch Deep Ball is 12.03mm.
An end mill with a conventional neck shape can obtain only 10.8mm.
EPDB Epoch Deep Ball: * Type - solid-carbide miniature ball end mill.
* Material - micro-grain-substrate.
* Radius-tolerance - 0.005mm.
* Dimensions - 02 up to 6mm diameter.
* Usable length - up to 20xD.
* E g, radius 0.5mm, available in eight different usable lengths from 3 to 20xD.
