Austrian machine tool builder buys Mecof

Austrian machine tool builder Emco has acquired Italian machining centre builder Mecof - since renamed Emco-Mecof - to offer turning and milling from a single source.

Emco, the Salzburg-based machine tool manufacturer and member of A-TEC Industries, acquires the Italian technology supplier for large-scale CNC machining centres.

The A-TEC Industries group of companies is continuing to expand in 2005.

An important enhancement of the programme offered by the Emco Group, one of the key European manufacturers in the machine tool sector.

The acquisition of Mecof, a leading producer of high-performance machining centres is now operating as Emco -Mecof.

The acquisition of Mecof represents a further enhancement for Emco, both in terms of the markets it services and its products.

Emco has strengthened its product portfolio and, as a full service supplier in the machine tool market sector and is rapidly becoming a big player in the machining branch.

The combination of turning and milling from a single source opens up new opportunities for EMCO as a full service supplier for machined production in the European and international markets.

Central and Eastern Europe and of course Italy are the Italian manufacturer's core markets, generating some EUR 25 million in sales in 2003.

Mecof is a leading manufacturer in large-scale moldmaking for the automobile industry with customers such as Land Rover, Jaguar, Ford and BMW and offers technologies for highly specific industries such as the aerospace branch.

"Emco's most recent acquisition will be a significant advantage for the entire machine tool group, particularly by improving access to specific target groups," one of the goals being pursued with the expansion strategy in this field, emphasizes Dr Herbert Moser, managing director of the Emco Group and spokesman for its directors.
