Advanced wire EDM system offers highest precision, first-class surface qualities and unique contour accuracy and can be used for high productivity applications on most steels or tungsten carbide.

Highest precision, first-class surface qualities and unique contour accuracy, these are the areas where the PA20 wire eroding system is gathering attention At the recent METAV 2006 fair in Dusseldorf, Germany, Mitsubishi Electric presented what many users already call the future of eroding technology

For some users the use of glass scales in all axes is import in order to obtain the defined angularity for workpieces, even in U and V planes.

Due to the need for precision of +/-2 micron, surfaces of 0.1 micron Ra and contour accuracy values of less than 2 micron, some users even challenge the need for subsequent grinding processes.

Apart from these precision highlights, the PA20 also leads in terms of economy.

For example, almost all mechanical rework can be omitted as the PA20 easily processes workpieces with a weight of up to 1.5 tonnes and dimensions up to 1050 x 800 x 295mm.

The PA20 can be used for high productivity applications on most steel materials e g.

SKD11 or tungsten carbide.

Among other things, this is due to the digital AC direct drive system coupled with optimally positioned circulating ballscrews.

This ensures the highest precision over the longest period of time, due to an axis resolution of 0.05 micron.

The PA20 brings together high technology and ease of use to allow non-skilled operators to achieve the highest results, whilst highly skilled operators can really gain 'High End Machining' performance.

Of course, this efficiency also applies to operating costs.

The PA series achieves all the stated performance values even with standard brass wires and the decreased power consumption, improved filter lifetimes as well as the low-maintenance stainless steel joints lead to visible cost reductions.

* Continuous precision through a solid basis - such extreme precision requires a correspondingly high quality machine concept.

With the PA series, Mitsubishi Electric demonstrates what is meant when talking about a solid layout.

The robust cast steel machine construction, with a weight of 3.5 tonnes, and the closed housing represent the basic requirements for a versatile application spectrum.

The PA20 has a wide range of innovative technologies.

For example, the suppression of uncontrolled or late discharges decisively improves surface quality.

Another innovative advance is the reduction of the force between workpiece and electrode, resulting in a benefit of enhanced linearity values and narrower gap dimensions in the micro range.

Additionally, the combination of the solid steel construction and the new temperature stabilisation system allows an automatic compensation of the upper and the lower arms.

This helps to eliminate any influence on processing precision caused by thermal drift.

The PA20 is also equipped with fully automatic management technology called 'Power Master PM4' which allows optimum operating values to be detected automatically, and the generator power is adapted accordingly.
